CASE STUDY

Stripping paint and primer from a fiberglass Ferrari body.

The Project

Multiple layers of paint and primer needed to be removed from this racing Ferrari before it could be repaired and repainted.

This was a unique project because the Ferrari body is composed of fiberglass, aluminum, and carbon fiber. These are all delicate materials that require some finesse to avoid damage.

The Challenge

To prevent damage, Official Master Strippers reduced the blast pressure on their DB225 down to 70 PSI.

They blasted with a generous standoff distance of 18-20 inches when possible. They used 40/70 crushed glass abrasive, and were able to complete the job in 3 hours, with an additional hour spent on masking and setup.

Job Details

  • Equipment: DB225
  • Nozzle: SLV #5
  • Pressure: 70 PSI
  • Standoff Distance: 18-20"
  • Blasting Method: Wet Blasting
  • Abrasive: 8 bags of 40/70 Crushed Glass
  • Blast Time: 3 hours

“The customer just wanted paint removed so he can fix all the cracks in the carbon fiber and the dents on the aluminum body, then repainted so they can get it back on the race track by next month.”
