Different Types of Nozzles
A sandblasting nozzle is a device that connects to the blast hose and directs the abrasive materials onto the surface being treated. Every type of blast nozzle on the market is designed for specific applications which is why they come in a different shapes, sizes and materials. Surface preparation experts want a variety of nozzles on hand for different applications because each type of sandblasting nozzle has its own advantages and disadvantages. Below are some factors to consider when choosing your nozzle:
- Nozzle Shape: A nozzle's bore shape determines its blast pattern. Nozzles generally either have a straight bore or a restricted, Venturi bore. A straight bore creates a tight blast pattern for spot blasting or blast cabinet work. Best for smaller jobs such as parts cleaning, weld seam shaping, cleaning handrails, steps, grillwork, or carving stone and other materials. A venturi bore creates a wide blast pattern and increases abrasive velocity at the nozzle. Venturi nozzles are the best choice for greater productivity when blasting larger surfaces.
- Nozzle Size and Your Air Supply: Nozzles are measured by their inner diameter, which is expressed as a number. The number size represents 1/16" increments. So if you have a #5 nozzle, it has a 5/16" inner diameter, and a #6 nozzle has a 3/8" inner diameter. We'll discuss how to o find your most productive nozzle below
- Nozzle Material: There are several types of sandblasting nozzle materials available in the market, including ceramic, tungsten carbide, boron carbide, and steel. The most popular nozzle that most experts use is a tungsten carbide as it provides the most durability.
We offer all of the blast nozzles mentioned on this page in our Online Store.
Standard Long Venturi Sandblasting Nozzles
Standard Long Venturi (or SLV) sandblasting nozzles accelerate the abrasive velocity, creating a wide blast pattern which is ideal for blasting larger surfaces.
An SLV blast nozzle is highly productive and suitable for most jobs which is why they are included with all of our blast pots and mobile trailers. Select this nozzle for just about any job to remove paint, rust, grime, bondo and so much more from a variety of surfaces.
- Tungsten carbide lining provides long life and durability, even under rough handling.
- Polyurethane jacket is lightweight to reduce operator fatigue.

Short Venturi Sandblasting Nozzles
Short Venturi blast nozzles deliver a tighter stream of blasting media in a concentrated pattern with little over blast. They're the ideal product for spot blasting, precision work, railings and areas that require a small blast pattern.
These sandblasting nozzles may be used when blasting 12″ or less from the surface.
Precision Blast Pattern
For detail work.

XL Nozzles
XL Performance sandblasting nozzles increase abrasive particle velocity, resulting in improved production rates and efficiencies. This also allows you to use a larger standoff distance, covering more ground in less time. A contractor will use this product on a large job, like marine maintenance, or for removing tough coatings.
XL nozzles will utilize the same air requirements (CFM) as the same sized SLV sandblasting nozzle, resulting in lower operating costs.
- Tungsten carbide lining
- Aluminum jacket and threads are lightweight and durable.
Largest Blast Pattern
Allows a larger standoff distance.

Fan Sandblasting Nozzles
The fan blast nozzle has a unique shape that produces a rectangular blast pattern excellent for quickly covering a large surface area.
This nozzle is designed for medium cleaning and stripping applications where an even dispersion of the abrasive throughout the wide uniform blast pattern is required.

Ultralite Blast Nozzles
If you're looking for a blast nozzle that is both lightweight and durable, our UltraLite Long Venturi Nozzle is the perfect solution. A product designed with high-quality materials and advanced engineering, this nozzle offers exceptional performance and longevity.
-
The polyurethane jacket and threading makes it 60% lighter than traditional tungsten carbide nozzles. This reduced weight helps to minimize operator fatigue, allowing for longer, more comfortable sandblasting sessions.
-
Long-Lasting Wear Resistance reduces replacement costs and ensures your nozzle stays productive and profitable. These blast nozzles boast outstanding wear resistance, lasting up to 50% longer than tungsten carbide nozzles.

Determining your Sandblasting nozzle size
To find your most productive blast nozzle, find out the following:
- What volume of available air does your compressor can supply per minute (CFM)
- What is the desired nozzle pressure (PSI) you want to maintain for productive blasting
Next consult the chart to find the nozzle orifice size that meets those parameters.
